A remarkable hand-embroidered textile created by a Shipibo artist of the Peruvian Amazon, this piece portrays a living garden of plant relationships—a visual expression of the bonds cultivated between the healer and the natural world.

The great arch unfolding across the upper portion of the tapestry is composed of many different leaves, forms, colors, and patterns. These can be understood as representing the different trees and plants the shaman has befriended through years of relationship, observation, ceremony, and learning. Rather than seeing the forest simply as vegetation, this worldview understands individual plants as beings with distinct qualities and teachings with whom a person may gradually develop a relationship.

Below the arch, serpentine forms move through an intricate field of Kene-inspired geometry, suggesting the interconnected pathways between plants, humans, ceremony, song, and the unseen dimensions of the Amazonian forest. At the center rests a ceremonial vessel, grounding the composition in the tradition of plant-centered ceremony.

The tapestry beautifully expresses an important idea: knowledge of the forest is not merely collected—it is cultivated through relationship. Each plant encountered, studied, and cared for becomes another thread within a larger living network.

Entirely embroidered by hand, the extraordinary density of detail reveals countless hours of patient work. Every stitch contributes to a visionary landscape where plants, patterns, animals, and ceremonial imagery become inseparable.

A one-of-a-kind Shipibo textile carrying the artist’s personal vision of the forest and the relationships formed within it.
